In 2003, Classis Hamilton became 50 years old and the 2003
Classis Hamilton Directory became the 50th Anniversary Issue.
Jerry Hobers, Margaret Tigchelaar and Hans Vander Stoep formed
the Classis Hamilton 50th Anniversary Committee and they write in the
directory's introduction:
"In this directory, you will find the history of almost all of
the Classis churches. Some included photographs, others only graphics. The
story of First Hamilton, Classis' mother church, "I will build my church"
done by Martha Tigchelaar vividly details the early years of the church long
before Classis Hamilton was born.
While Classis Hamilton when instituted was one of three Classes
that covered all of Eastern Canada, now there are seven. Then Classis Hamilton's
eighteen listings included churches as far north as Cochrane, as far west as
Stratford and all the churches in Classis Niagara. Then the combined number of
members was 16200, in 2002 that read 52300.
It is our committee's wish that all 6600 members, up from 6000
in 1953, of Classis Hamilton's churches may gain a deeper appreciation for what
we as CRC churches blessed by God have accomplished together. This encourages us
to carry on the Lord's work until He comes. Ebenezer!"
